Introduction
Introduction
The election campaign is a complex and costly undertaking. Consequently, fundraising is a very important component for a successful election campaign. Contemporary studies show a direct link between funding and success. So the more budget you have for the campaign, the higher the chances of success.
Fundraising should not be seen as a purely financial organization, but as a process of presenting your vision and as a request for citizens to contribute to the fulfilment of this vision through donations. When raising funds, you, as an election candidate, must explain your vision and persuade citizens of common interest to join you.
This course will cover three main segments:
· Legal forms of financing · Identification of funding sources · Effective financing techniques
|
Legal forms of financing
This chapter contains a summary of the Law on Financing Political Parties in Kosovo. The focus will be on good legal and ethical practices as well as prohibited forms of funding. The best international standards summarized in the Guidelines on Political Party Regulation drafted by the Venice Commission will also be covered. These guidelines serve as a guide for all democratic countries in drafting legislation on the financing of political parties. The main parts of this chapter are:
· Legislation for financing of political parties · Good practices and prohibited forms of funding in Kosovo
|
Identification of funding sources
This chapter will introduce some tactics and approaches to identify potential donors for your election campaign. An example of how to develop a campaign budget is first introduced. Next, it explains how you should do the research and come up with ideas to identify individuals, interest groups, and companies with common interests with you and your party. The categories of background or identity of citizens based on which you should approach them to seek funding are further introduced. In-kind donations will be covered as well, not only the financial one. The sections of this chapter include:
· Campaign budget development · Identification of individuals, interest groups and companies · In-kind donations
|
Effective funding techniques
The chapter begins by emphasizing the importance of setting an adequate amount based on certain profiles. Then, some examples of approach for target entities are given. Further, the chapter elaborates fundraising techniques such as:
· mass fundraising;
· organization of gala events;
· targeted fundraising through visits to organizations and companies with which you share the same interests or goals;
· digital funding platforms.
· Determining the adequate amount · Fundraising techniques
|
